“We absolutely LOVE our pool. We love the way it looks and it feels like vacation to have a pool in 116 degree weather! We thoroughly enjoy our pool and it is absolutely worth it during the summer. This was our first major construction project, ever, and overall it went smoothly. I know I am a bit of a storyteller/essay writer, so here’s your TL:DR summary at the beginning of my essay:
Andrew and Wells Pools met my high expectations, with only hiccups relating to the process of the pool build, which could have been mostly resolved by reading our owner’s manual given to us at signing. (Oops) We had our pool built during Covid’s supply chain issues, so given those circumstances, the pool was finished rather quickly with little deviation from the original quote, except for drilling, which we expected because we live in Rocklin. I knew what I wanted and got it!
Now onto the essay, which basically explains my entire pool building experience for those interested:
If you’re trying to build a pool in Rocklin, be forewarned, many pool builders do not want to build here. Rocklin is so aptly named for its rocks! We were only able to get quotes from Courage and Wells. Ultimately, I loved how easy it was to contact the now-owner of Wells, Andrew. He is very fast at responding to text messages and calls. I knew exactly what I wanted design-wise, so as long as Wells could build what I wanted (I showed lots of photos), I was okay with Wells’ gallery that lacked (at the time) what I considered to be my “dream pool.”
We signed in July 2021 with the expectation that they were very busy in 2021 and maybe could not break ground until spring 2022. We broke ground in Feb 2022. They removed the fence in order to get access with a large excavator due to potential of rock. Digging, drilling, framing, gunite and tiling went smoothly over the course of 1-2 months. A word about tiles: since Wells has a great warranty policy, they discourage use of glass tiles (read: pretty glass tiles!) for your waterline. I was taken aback because that’s all I had in mind when picking out the tiles. We compromised a little and chose aquabella “tivoli white” porcelain ledger tiles for the waterline and npt “starburst” in teal for the step detail tile and spa spillway. We had a hiccup during the electricity and plumbing placement. Wells states in their contract, as I’m sure many other pool builders do, that if they need to remove existing lines (sprinklers, drainage, etc) in order to place pool lines, that they would do so and the owners would be responsible for fixing whatever needed repairing. They had to remove parts of our French drain (the drain connected to our rain gutters on our house that leads rain water from our roof to the street) to install the gas and electricity lines. If I referred to my contract, we would not have had a hiccup. Once all the underground lines were placed, they backfilled the dirt, then the concrete was poured. Finally, it was time to replace the fence. I also thought that Wells was going to replace the fence, but again, if I read the contact, it was up to us. Per code, we could not plaster the pool unless the fence was up. Wells was ready to do this in April- May? Earliest I could get someone to replace the fence was June. The fence companies were also dealing with supply and labor shortages. Adams Pool specialties (plaster contractor) were also having delays, but they had what I wanted, even though Andrew did offer me alternatives. I chose Pebbletec PebbleSheen “Irish Mist” for a pool finish and I ADORE it. We did pay extra for it, but it really is my dream color! It is my favorite color of teal. After the pool was filled, we had to redo a couple inspections to satisfy City of Rocklin codes to consider the pool “completed” in order to insure it. We were finally swimming in July 2022! Since then, we have had 2 items that needed to be followed up with and Wells has come through so far.
Thank you Andrew for answering all my long-winded texts and questions over the year and for our beautiful pool!”
