Before You Build

What you should know before you hire a pool contractor!

Wells Pools encourages our customers to make a fully informed decision in choosing the pool contractor best suited to construct and warranty their backyard project. We recommend that all of our potential clients have the answers to the following simple but critical questions before signing a contract with any swimming pool builder:

Does the Contractor have the proper license to build a swimming pool and is that license in good standing the Contractor’s State License Board?

One of the first steps in investigating a contractor is to check out the pool company's license. Are they still licensed? Do they have a C-53? Is their license “clean”? Wells Pools has had a valid C-53 license since 2001, first as a partnership, then as a corporation and are proud of the fact that we have never had a mark against our license. You can verify our license at: www.cslb.ca.gov/consumers

Is the Contractor in “Good Standing” with Suppliers and Subcontractors?

Wells Pools will provide upon request, current letters of good standing from our major suppliers and subcontractors.

Will the Contractor provide Releases of Lien?

Wells Pools will provide releases of lien after each progress payment is received during construction. We will also provide lien releases from our subcontractors if requested.

Will the Contractor be here next year?

Wells Pools is a debt-free corporation. Our owners have never managed or owned companies that have filed for bankruptcy protection. Our principals have never had and do not currently have judgments against them. In addition, Wells Pools has never filed a lien on a homeowner’s property.

Does the Contractor provide referrals?

Wells Pools provides our clients with an extensive list of referrals complete with contact information. This information is provided with each proposal. We recommend calling at least three references to check our past work. Wells Pools business is 95% client referral and we are proud of our reputation in the community.

Does the Contractor have Insurance?

Wells Pools, upon request, will provide a certificate of our Liability Insurance and Workers Compensation Insurance. We carry a $2,000,000 per occurrence Liability Insurance Policy.

Is the Contract and Payment Schedule “Fair”?

Wells Pools complies with all State and Federal Laws concerning payment. We never collect payment before the work has been performed. The CSLB and the Better Business Bureau have approved our contract. By law, all contractors who perform work that totals $500 or more (labor and materials) must be licensed by the CSLB.
